LCDR MEEK entered the navy in the spring of 1945 in the Naval Aviation Cadet program. In July 1946 he entered the U.S. Naval Academy and graduated in 1950. After graduation LCDR MEEK served first in the aircraft carrier PALAU. In August 1951 he was ordered to training at the CIC Officer School, Glenview, Illinois. Upon completion of this course in March of 1952, he reported to the destroyer MCDERMUT in which he served as CIC Officer and later Operations Oficer during the Korean War. during this period the MCDERMUT operated with both Task Forces 77and 95 along the coast of North Korea. LCDR MEEK assumed command of the USS DEMING (PCS-1392) in October 1953. Upon de-commissioning the DEMING in the spring of 1954, he assumed command of the USS CONDOR (AMS-5)
and later of the USS KITE (MSC22). Both Ships were Minesweeping units of Mine Squadon THREE, homeported in Sasebo, Japan. They were employed inpatrool and mine sweeping operations in Korean and Japanese waters. He later was assigned as Movement Control Officer for Service Squadon THREE also homeported in Sasebo.
In the summer of 1956, LCDR MEEK was ordered to duty on the staff of the U.S. Naval Academy in the Department of Seamanship and Navigation. Upon completion of this tour, he reported to the USS LESTER (DE-1022) and assumed duties of Executive Officer on 3 July 1958. Following this, LCDR MEEK served in command of USS SEQUOIA, The Secretary of the Navy's yacht from October 1959 until July 1962. In August he entered the Naval War College and graduated in June 1963. On 11 July 1963 he assumed command of the USS CLAUD JONES (DE-1033) . LCDR MEEK is authorized the following campaign and service medals: American Defense, World War II Victory, China Service, united Nations, Korean Service, National Defense, American Expeditionary and ROK Presidential Unit Citation. LCDR MEEK possesses an FAA private pilots license
